New Life Baptist Church in Columbia, SC hosted our GBBF meeting on March 7th. Brother John and the fine folks at New Life did an outstanding job! It was a wonderful time of preaching, singing and fellowship. Tom McGann from Charleston, SC prepared a very special meal. The menu consisted of all the steak we could eat, a special bean grown only in the Santa Maria Valley, baked potato, salad and desert. Brother John it was good!! What a blessing to see how our Lord has blessed this Great Church and their tremendous Pastor!!!

Today we said farewells to long-time BBFI missionary Stanley Yachnovicz. Stan and Barbara served in Taiwan for more than 40 years before he suffered a stroke that brought them home from the field. For the last 14 + years they have been faithful members of Alliance. I have been honored to serve as his pastor. On New Year’s day he went home to be with the Lord before the sun came up. We had a good tribute to a great man of God and faithful part of the BBFI. Several missionaries from Taiwan shared funny stories of Stan and his work on the field. Barbara is a great lady and is doing well. Their faith is awesome to see. Please pray for his family.

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI- The Board of Trustees of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, announces that Jim Edge, the President of BBC, submitted his resignation as President by letter to the Board on November 14, 2011. The
Board has accepted his resignation and expresses its gratitude for the three years of service which President Edge has given to BBC. The Board wishes to recognize some of President Edge’s accomplishments during his tenure at BBC.
President Edge has, in difficult economic times, reduced the operational deficit of the college by $1.6 million, raised approximately $1.5 million in donations for the college, not including the May college offerings, led the way for the college to revamp its curriculum to better improve the educational product for the students of BBC, signed a reciprocity agreement with Cox School of Nursing, and worked tirelessly for the betterment of this institution and her students.
After an executive session, the Board has selected Ron Sears, senior pastor of the First Baptist Church in New Castle, Delaware, to be the interim President of BBC. Sears, who is a current member of the Board, did his undergraduate work at BBC and has also received a MA degree in Christian Education and a Doctor of Ministry degree, both from Freedom Seminary, in Orlando, Florida. The Board also announces that it will begin a selection process to find a permanent replacement with a goal of announcing the new President of BBC at the Baptist Bible Fellowship meeting in Springfield, Missouri, in May of 2012.
For over 60 years, BBC’s foremost obligation has been to provide the best educational environment to teach its students the basic, eternal, truths of the Book which is part of the name of our college. The Board acknowledges that BBC's greatest asset is not its buildings, but its students, who comes from across the United States and from around the world, to “enter to learn,” and the faculty, whose life mission it is to help those students “go forth to serve.” We owe to them our best efforts to select the right person to love them, to serve them and to show fidelity to the calling that brought them to BBC. We promise them to do all we can to honor that calling.
The Board also humbly asks for the advice, and most importantly, the prayers of the pastors of the Baptist Bible Fellowship International, and all persons who love and support BBC, for the wisdom to select the right man for such a time as this to serve our students and to “commit [our] works unto the Lord” so that our “thoughts shall be established.” Proverbs 16:3. In this spirit we go forward, together, in that faith of those “things hoped for,” but “not seen,” always seeking the good report of our elders and of our God.
Our beloved Donald Wayne Brown went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 8, 2011. He was 78 years young.
Don was born on August 3, 1933, in Paris, Texas, to Vonnie Alton Brown and Myrtle Mae Brown. He grew up in Paris, Texas. In his younger years, he first delivered newspapers on a bicycle and then on his different motorcycle types later. Many stories are wrapped around his love of motorcycles and rides with friends and family. Soon after high school Don was drafted into the Army. He was stationed in White Sands, NM, at White Sands Proving Ground where he trained on the deployment of Nike Missiles. He also attended Paris Jr. College and the University of Houston.
After completing his military tour, Don returned home to Paris where he met his soon to be wife, Laurie Wright, who was singing at his sister’s wedding. After marrying Laurie, the two of them moved to Springfield where they attended Baptist Bible College and trained to become missionaries to Ethiopia. In Springfield, they had their first son. He received a Bachelor’s in Missions. While serving as missionaries in Ethiopia they had three more children. After seven years of winning souls to Christ and starting churches they returned to the United States. In 1970, he was employed by the Baptist Bible Fellowship International Mission’s Office in Springfield, MO, as the Assistant to the Director under three different Directors. He worked for the Fellowship for 30+ years doing what he LOVED, assisting and training new missionaries. For his 40 years of dedicated missionary ministry he received an Honorary Doctor’s Degree in Theology from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary in Shreveport, La. Don was an active member of Seminole Baptist Church while in Springfield. There he taught adult Sunday School for many, many years.
On the Mission Field, at the BBFI, BBC and at Seminole Baptist, Don made lots of life-long friends that will always remember and love him. The twinkle in his eyes and his warm smile captured the hearts of all who knew him. He was the best example of a selfless, forgiving and loving Christian man and father that anyone could ever meet or have. He loved to say, “blessed are the peace makers.”

Don also lived in Pasadena, Texas, Onalaska, Texas, and Bellingham, Washington.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Vonnie and Myrtle Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Brown and their children; sons, Michael Brown of Springfield, MO, Andrew Brown of Springfield, MO, Joseph Brown of Dallas, Texas, and daughter Becky Line of Ferndale, WA. Don is also survived by four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Margaret Ellis of Mandeville, LA, Melba Spivey and husband, Roland Spivey of Onalaska, Texas, and Gairee Brown of Onalaska, Texas.
The family will receive friends and visitors from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, in Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in Seminole Baptist Temple Thursday, October 13, at 11:30 am with Pastor Don Baier officiating. Burial will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
The family suggest memorials be made to the Baptist Bible Fellowship International Mission’s Office in Springfield, Mo, or the Christian charity of your choice.
